📖 Storytelling Event at MONAH: Keepunumuk – Weeachumun's Thanksgiving Story 🌽🌱

Join us for a special storytelling event at MONAH as we explore the tale of Keepunumuk – Weeachumun's Thanksgiving Story! This beautiful book shares the story of the Three Sisters—corn, beans, and squash—and the Native traditions surrounding the first harvests and Thanksgiving.

🎨 After the story, children and families will get creative with a hands-on craft, making their own Three Sisters Garden Collage to take home! 🌽🌱

This event is FREE and fun for the whole family! It’s the perfect way to learn about the rich history of Indigenous agricultural traditions while celebrating creativity and togetherness.

Creative Spirit with Eldrena Douma

Join MONAH in welcoming storyteller, Eldrena Douma. Eldrena will engage participants in imagination related activities while weaving a story rooted in the spirit of creativity. In addition to these stories, a related activity and craft for children ages 3 and up will be available to watch.

Eldrena Douma grew up in the pueblo tribes of the Laguna, Tewa and Hopi. Her experiences as a teacher and her Native upbringing made a powerful foundation for her work as a storyteller. A recipient of the prestigious John Henry Faulk Award, she travels the country sharing her captivating stories.

Join MONAH in welcoming back Gayle Ross, Cherokee storyteller for a virtual telling of traditional Cherokee tales. Ross will tell two stories appropriate for the whole family. In addition to these stories, a story-related activity and craft for children ages 3 and up will be available to watch!


Participants will be asked to register for free. Since this is a virtual prerecorded event, a link to the event’s webpage will be sent to the registered email address. All event content, including the two stories and children’s activity and/or craft will be available through this link starting at 11 AM on Saturday, August 8, 2020.

Join MONAH in welcome Farina King for Storytime this month! Farina, a Diné author and historian, will be reading Wisdom Weaver by Jann A Johnson, a heartwarming story of an adoring Navajo granddaughter who learns the process of making a traditional Navajo rug from her patient grandmother. Storytime will be followed by a maker-taker weaving activity for the children.

Join MONAH in welcoming Toni Carter for Storytime this month! Toni is a member of the Bad River band of Chippewa Indians. She is an animal lover and a local preschool teacher! This month, she will be reading Bowwow Powwow by Brenda J. Child. Toni will be teaching a circle dance and doing a themed craft.

Join MONAH the second Saturday of December for Storytime at the Museum! We will read Tallchief: America's Prima Ballerina, a story about the first American prima ballerina, Maria Tallchief (Osage).

After the story, we will be making an Osage Ribbonwork Bookmark craft for your child to take home!

Storytime at the Museum is geared toward ages 4 and up; kids of all ages and their adults are welcome!
