Indigenous Medicine Garden
The Museum of Native American History’s Indigenous Medicine Garden is a joint effort of the Museum of Native American History, The Thaden School, Runway Group, Garden City Nursery, the Fay Jones School of Architecture at the University of Arkansas, and Dr. Dan Wildcat from Haskell Indian Nations University.
MONAH would like to further contribute to our community, and continue to educate patrons about the first peoples of the Americas. We believe a connection from the museum to the grounds will further unite the cultural and artistic influences in our region. We hope you enjoy the Indigenous Medicine Garden, that it inspires you to learn more, and provides a connection with the land.
Our plan is to expand the gardens in Spring 2022 into The Gardens of Indigenuity: A Living Exhibition with the help of Dr. Dan Wildcat and Scott Biehle. The Gardens of Indigenuity will expand our present medicine garden to showcase the three core components of indigenous natural L.A.W.—land, air, and water. The garden will include three teaching gardens themed on Indigenuity and developed to focus the visitor’s attention on each element through plants, material use, art, and sculpture.
MONAH is developing activities and lesson plans to use while visiting the Indigenous Medicine garden. Check back here for new information.
