About Orlando Begay

Orlando Begay (a.k.a. O.B.), born in Monument Valley UT, is a member of the Navajo Nation. Born into a traditional Navajo family of basket and rug weavers, he was naturally inspired to become an artist as well. O.B. started his art journey in his early elementary school days by doodling in class. He practiced his drawing skills every time he was bored during school, so he practiced A LOT. Despite failing almost every art class, O.B continued to pursue art with the help and encouragement of his friends and family.

During his attendance at Haskell Indian Nations University, O.B. accepted an offer to intern for Ryan Red Corn at Buffalo Nickel Press for a summer. There at Buffalo Nickel Press, O.B. learned screen printing, professionalism, and graphic design. After, O.B. experimented with
custom shoe art (OB Ones custom shoes), which was well-received by the public, and helped O.B. to learn the business side of art. Now, O.B. enjoys working on design work that brings awareness to contemporary Native American issues, healthy events, or anything that can have a positive impact on our communities.

O.B. is the graphic artist for our fifth annual Native American Cultural Celebration: Indigenuity: Building a Bridge to the Future. He worked with Dr. Dan Wildcat to form the image of indigenuity.
